Track

Track is where your hours live: run the timer, log past work, and read your days and weeks.

Timeline, Week & Month Views

Switch between a focused Timeline agenda, the Week spreadsheet grid, and the Month calendar; your choice is remembered across devices. The Week grid is a desktop view - the wide project-by-day matrix does not fit comfortably on a phone, so Week is unavailable on mobile. Timeline and Month are available on every screen size.

Live Timer

A running timer is saved to your account, so it survives a refresh and shows on every device. The timer starts on the last project and task you used here.

Quick Actions

To log past work, use Log Time and set the day and hours. An empty day has its own Add; the Week grid has a + per day.

Logging an Item

Not all work is time. Open Log Time and switch it from Time to Item to log a page, a fixed fee or a milestone: pick the project (it starts on the one you had), how it is priced - Per Unit, from the price list, or One Amount - and whether it was Delivered on a day or is still Planned. It lands on the project's Items and, once delivered, in Unbilled. The panel then reads Log Item.

Covered by Fee

Time on a project whose fee covers its hours - billed per unit or by a fixed fee with Bill extra hours off, or on a retainer - carries a quiet Covered by fee tag on its timeline row and beside the project in the Week grid. It still counts as worked; it is never billed on its own. On a retainer with included hours it counts against the period's allowance; when the client runs more than one retainer the tag names the one it draws from ("Covered by Support"). The tag follows the terms of the hour's own day, and time on a retainer project after its retainer ends bills by the hour. Time on a project marked Not billed carries a Not billed tag instead: it counts as worked and is never charged.

Billed Time Stays Put

Once time is on an invoice you have sent, or you have settled it, its project, date and times are fixed, so the invoice and your reports keep agreeing. You can still change its task and its note. To change the rest, revert the invoice to a draft (or delete it) from its More menu, or unsettle the time in Invoices; it is then editable again.

Reading Track

Reading the Week Grid

On desktop, switching to the Week view shows a compact spreadsheet with one row per project-and-task combination. The Week grid is not available on phones - on a small screen you use the Timeline or Month view instead, so you never wrestle a wide grid.

  • Color stripe. Each row has a colored bar on its left edge that matches its project's color, making it easy to scan which project you are looking at without reading the label.
  • Per-day duration summary. Each row's day cells show the time logged that day (e.g. 2:30). The cell is blank when nothing was logged.
  • Per-project Total column. The rightmost column shows the week total for each project-and-task row. The footer row shows the daily grand totals and the week grand total.
  • Time off banner. Any PTO or public holiday that falls within the week appears as a colored top banner spanning its days, with a "Time off" label in the gutter. Weeks with no time off show no banner row.
  • Honest totals - no double-billing. If two entries for the same project and task overlap in time (for example, 9:00-11:00 and 10:00-12:00), the day total counts the overlapping period only once (3 h, not 4 h). Time logged across two different projects at the same time is summed normally, since those are two separate billable streams.
  • Expand for detail. Click the chevron on any row to expand it and see the individual time entries for the week. Each entry shows its start-to-end range and can be clicked to edit it in a panel that slides over the page.

Understanding the Timeline

The Timeline is a continuous, newest-first agenda. Today's card is always pinned at the top; older days scroll below it. Each entry shows a colored left stripe that matches its project, so you can scan your day at a glance without reading every label.

  • Quiet days collapse. Stretches of days with no time logged fold into a single "N quiet days" line to keep the list readable. Tap or click it to expand and see the individual days.
  • Show Older. Tap Show Older at the bottom of the list to page back to your previous activity. The button jumps you to the next batch of days that have entries, skipping any long quiet gaps.
  • Time off shown as a colored bar. PTO and public holidays appear as a colored bar on the left edge of that day's card, plus a labeled pill (e.g. "ANNUAL LEAVE"). Colors come from your Time Off configuration.
  • Click an existing entry to open its edit panel and adjust its time, project, or description.
  • Use the Delete Entry button in the edit panel to remove an entry permanently.

Reading the Month Calendar

The Month view shows a full calendar grid of the selected month, giving you an at-a-glance picture of how busy each day was. It works on phones as well as desktop - unlike the Week grid.

  • Day total. Each day cell shows the total time tracked that day in the top-right corner on wider screens, and bottom-center on a narrow phone (e.g. 3:45). The number uses the same union-aware logic as the Week grid - overlapping entries for the same project and task are counted only once.
  • Heat tint. Busier days get a stronger blue tint, giving the month a contribution-graph feel. An 8-hour day saturates the tint; lighter days appear progressively paler. Empty days have no tint.
  • Entry count. A small entry count (e.g. 3 entries) appears below the total on wider screens. It is hidden on narrow phone screens to keep each cell readable.
  • Project-composition bar. A thin colored bar at the bottom of each cell shows which projects you worked on that day, proportional to time spent. Each segment's color matches its project.
  • Time off. PTO and public holidays appear as a colored left rail on the cell, plus a short label on wider screens. Colors come from your Time Off configuration.
  • Click to drill down. Tap or click any day to open that day in the Timeline view, where you can see and edit individual entries. On phones, the day you tapped flashes briefly when the Timeline opens, so it is easy to spot.
  • Respects your week start. The column order follows your First Day of Week setting (Sunday, Monday, or Saturday) - the same setting that drives the Week grid and the date picker.

Tips

  • Start/Stop: Use the play button on the timer widget in the topbar.
  • End of week: the Week grid's Total column has each row's hours, and the Overview shows the week against your target.
  • Typing: times and dates are forgiving (9, 930, 5pm; 11/6, jun 11) and are tidied when you leave the field. An end time before the start moves the end to the next day. Both time fields offer a pick list; the end list shows each option's duration.

Cross-Midnight Entries

Time entries that span past midnight are fully supported. When creating or editing an entry, you can set separate Start Date / End Date fields alongside the usual Start Time / End Time fields.

  • +
Next-day markers: in the Week grid, a cell that ends the next day wears a small + badge (+2 for two days); on the Timeline the times end in +1.
  • +
Timer Day Counter: If the live timer runs for 24 hours or more, it switches from HH:MM:SS to D:HH:MM:SS format, where D is the number of completed 24-hour cycles (e.g., 1:02:15:30 for 26 hours, 15 minutes, 30 seconds).

Merge overlapping time

If the same project and task has two or more entries that overlap in time on a single day - for example 9:00-11:00 and 10:00-12:00 - the Timeline shows an amber Overlapping time on this day strip below that day's header with a Merge button. Tapping it opens a confirmation dialog that lists the original entries and shows the merged result: one combined entry spanning the earliest start to the latest end, with the overlapping period counted only once.

  • No double-billing. The merged entry's duration equals the union of the original spans, so the day total is unchanged. You are never charged twice for the same wall-clock time.
  • Notes are joined. Distinct descriptions from the originals are joined into the merged entry's notes field, separated by /.
  • Undo right away. After confirming, a toast with an Undo button appears for about ten seconds (press Esc to dismiss it sooner). Clicking Undo recreates the original entries and removes the merged one.
  • Or split it later. A merge is never locked in. The merged entry keeps a Merged from N badge with a Split button on its Timeline row that restores the original entries at any time - even long after the toast is gone.
  • Billing guards. Running (in-progress) and invoiced entries cannot be merged; the button is not shown for those entries.

Change a row's project or task

Each finalized entry row on the Timeline has a small pencil button. Clicking it opens an inline panel directly under the row with Project and Task selectors (the task list updates automatically when you change the project). Click Save to apply it without opening the entry.

  • Only one reassign panel is open at a time. Clicking the pencil on a different entry closes the previous panel without saving.
  • The running-timer entry does not show the pencil; use the topbar timer's edit controls to change the active entry's project or task.
