Settings

Your profile, how dates and money look, your work week, and your data.

General Configuration

  • •
Appearance System, which follows your device's setting, Light or Dark. On the web it is the first section of Settings > Global Configuration. The choice is kept on this browser, so it applies at once and does not travel with your account.
  • •
Currency The one currency for your rates, invoices and reports. Amounts show its symbol: $, £, R.
  • •
Time Rounding Rounds each entry up to the next step when it is saved: with 15 minutes, 0:02 becomes 0:15.
  • •
Date & Time Format Choose how dates display and are typed - numeric (MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, ISO, DD.MM.YYYY, DD-MM-YYYY) or month-name (DD MMM YYYY, MMM D, YYYY) - plus 12h/24h time. Date fields accept forgiving input: type 11/6, jun 11, or 11 June 2026 and the app normalizes it for you. The calendar button is always available.
  • •
Work Schedule Set Work Hours per Day, your Working Days and PTO Days per Year. These drive the overview dashboard's weekly tracked-hours target (hours per day x workdays per week) and the Time Off allowance. Hours per day is shared with the Capacity report's Target Daily Avg.
  • •
Fiscal Year Choose the month (and, if you need it, the day) your fiscal year starts. Changing it re-scopes every figure in Taxes and Expenses and re-labels the year selector - for example an April start makes "2026" cover April 2026 through March 2027. The default, 1 January, keeps the fiscal year the same as the calendar year, so most users never need to touch it.
  • •
Location & Holidays Set your country - and, for the US, UK, Australia and Canada, your state / nation / province. This is the default jurisdiction for Import Holidays (Time Off), so you get your country's calendar without picking it each time, and it is the country Load Defaults starts on in the tax configuration.

Profile & Identity

  • •
Personal Information First Name, Last Name, Email (read-only), Account Type.
  • •
Business Details Company Name, Tax ID (optional), Address, Phone Number. Your Tax ID (EIN, VAT, etc.) is displayed on invoices when provided. Leave it blank to omit. Note: some jurisdictions require a Tax ID on business invoices - check your local regulations.
  • •
Auto-Save All profile fields save automatically on change. No Save button needed.
  • •
Email Verification A verification email is sent when you sign up. Until verified, a modal reminder will appear 5 seconds after each page navigation. You can dismiss the modal, but it will reappear when you navigate to another page. Check your inbox and spam/junk folder for the verification email. After clicking the verification link, you will see a confirmation page before being redirected to sign in. Two-factor sign-in and client replies to your invoice emails both need a verified address.

Sign-in Methods & Security

  • •
Google and Apple Sign-In Link your Google account or your Apple ID to sign in faster. Once linked, you can sign in with any of your methods. You can unlink one from the Profile page while another remains. If you sign in with Google or Apple using an email that already has an account, Ataru asks you to sign in the usual way once and then connects it for you. Signing in with Apple can keep your email private with Hide My Email: our mail reaches you through Apple's relay, but a client's reply to an invoice email cannot, so the reply setting under Invoices says so.
  • •
Two-Factor Authentication (MFA) Add an extra layer of security with a TOTP authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password). Enable it from your Profile page under Two-Factor Authentication. You will need a verified email address and to confirm your password before setup. App 2FA protects password sign-in only: accounts that sign in exclusively through a provider (such as Google or Apple) are protected by that provider's own verification and are not offered app codes (the option shows grayed out with "Needs a password sign-in") - and while a code is enrolled it is also requested on provider sign-ins. Removing your password removes the app codes with it. Whenever a second factor is added, Firebase also emails a security notice.
  • •
Changing Your Password On your Profile page under Sign-in Methods, Change Password asks for your current password (and the code from your authenticator app when two-factor authentication is on), then the new password twice: at least 8 characters, different from the current one. Changing it signs you out on your other devices; this browser stays signed in. Forgot your current password? Sign out, then use » recover password on the sign-in page.
  • •
Adding a Password If you signed up with Google or Apple, Set Password on the same row adds a password, so you can also sign in with your email. You confirm with Google or Apple first. Firebase may then ask you to verify your email address again; we send the link.
  • •
Unlinking Accounts You can unlink Google or Apple when your account has another sign-in method. If it is your only one, Unlink is not offered: add a password first with Set Password.

Emails We Send

No newsletters. No marketing email. Only the emails your account needs. There is nothing to switch off, because everything we send is about your account: sign-in and security (verification, password resets, two-factor changes), the state of your trial or subscription (the trial's reminders, renewal and payment notices, receipts for your subscription), and replies to the messages you send us.

The emails you send to clients - invoices, payment receipts and balance reminders - are set up with the Invoices: their templates and whether your clients' replies reach you live in the Email Template section of the Invoices gear.

Import and Export

Bring time in from other tools, or take everything out - from Settings > Import & Export; an import can be undone as soon as it finishes.

  • •
Guided import Continue reads your file and asks only about what does not fit: a project with no client, entries with no project, a name close to one you have, a project name another client already uses, a new client's rate, rates in another currency, time you already have here, work that was already billed, rows that look wrong or appear twice. Projects copied each year to change their rate come in as one project with that rate history. Confirm shows exactly what will be imported, settled or skipped. Your answers are remembered for the next import from the same tool.
  • •
Importing again An import never changes anything already in Cesium. Import the same export again, or a longer one, and entries already here are skipped; an entry you changed in the other tool stays as you have it here unless you import it as a new entry, and rows that overlap time you already tracked here are skipped unless you choose otherwise. On the Confirm step you can also archive the clients and projects an import creates.
  • •
Export Data Export JSON downloads your whole account as one file.
  • •
Delete Account Deletes everything in your account. Any subscription is canceled first, so you are not charged again. On the web it is the Danger Zone on your Profile. Deleting asks you to type DELETE, and to confirm it is you with your password (or Google) when you last signed in more than five minutes ago. An account with Apple linked always confirms with Apple, which disconnects your Apple ID from Ataru before anything is deleted.
Data retention after subscription ends If your subscription ends (cancellation, payment failure, or expiry) or your free trial ends without a plan, we keep your data for 90 days from the end-of-access date so you can resubscribe and pick up where you left off. During retention you can:
  • Sign in to download your data from the Billing page
  • Resubscribe at any time and have everything restored
  • Trigger immediate permanent deletion via the Danger Zone above
You'll receive a warning email at Day 60 with 30 days notice before deletion. At Day 90, all data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. A sign-in that never became an account, with nothing saved, is removed after 30 days. Cesium is a tool, not a system-of-record for your tax compliance. You are responsible for retaining your own business records - use the export feature to keep your own copies for as long as your jurisdiction requires.

Supported Sources

  • Toggl - export the detailed report as CSV (Reports, Detailed, Export) and upload it. To carry hourly rates, client links and archived state across, also add clients.json and projects.json from the workspace data export (Organization, Export data). Start and end times are read in the timezone you are signed in from.
  • Clockify - Reports → Detailed → Export CSV; upload the single file.
  • Harvest - Reports → Time → Export CSV; upload the single file.
  • Any other CSV - upload it and match its columns (client, project, date, duration and so on); the matching is saved for the next file with the same columns.

The source is detected automatically. Toggl is checked against real exports; Clockify and Harvest are built from their published formats and not yet checked against a real export. Non-billable rows are imported as settled (kept as history, excluded from invoicing). Before you import, the last step names any columns the import does not read (an approval flag, an estimate); tick one to add its value to each entry's note, as "Column: value". The first ten people to import from Clockify or Harvest can claim a free month, and anyone importing from them can share a coded copy of the file to help us check it: the copy keeps dates, times, durations and the billable column, removes your name, email and every amount, and turns client, project, task and description names into codes. It is kept 90 days, and you can delete it under Files You Shared.
