Reports

Four reports: Income, Hours Worked, Capacity and Profit-Loss.

Reporting in Ataru Cesium has four tabs: Income, Hours Worked, Capacity, and Profit-Loss. Switch between them from the tabs at the top, and use the Filters panel to adjust date ranges and billing periods.

Chart Annotations: On Income and Hours Worked tabs, toggle overlays for Weekends, Public Holidays, and Personal Time Off to contextualize dips in productivity. Enable the Legend toggle to display a color key directly on the chart.

Long ranges: When viewing longer periods (Year to Date, Previous Year, or custom ranges exceeding 32 days), the chart switches to monthly aggregation. Annotation toggles are automatically disabled and reset since daily markers no longer apply at the monthly scale. The Legend toggle remains available.

Mobile Experience: On smaller screens, charts automatically become horizontally scrollable to preserve detail. The Y-axis (Currency or Hours) remains pinned to the left so you never lose context while panning through your data. The Capacity and Profit-Loss tabs display mobile-optimized card layouts instead of tables.

How much did I earn?

Income Report: Shows what you earned each day or month: your time at your rates plus items on the day you delivered them, whether or not it has been invoiced or paid yet. Earned is not what you have invoiced or been paid. When an Earned range holds items, the chart stacks them on the time in a second color (the legend reads Time and Items) and a line under the figures says how much they earned. Hours on a project whose fee covers them count in Hours and Capacity but earn nothing on their own; the fee earns through its items. The Est. Tax on Gross tile estimates tax on the figure shown at the year's configured rates; the Taxes page is the authority and can use your operating income instead. Money with no work behind it - an extra you kept on a payment (a tip, rounding, a late fee), client credit you kept, other income you recorded on Taxes, and anything you wrote off - is never part of the headline: when the range has some, a line under the figures says how much, and the tax estimate counts it (other income on Money received and Invoiced only, write-offs on Invoiced and Earned only). Custom ranges reach back five years; an earlier start date is moved to the first day of that window and the report says so.

Where did my time go?

Hours Worked Report: Visualizes the distribution of your hours per day or month. Identify productivity patterns and time allocation. Under the total, Billable and Not billed split your hours: Not billed is every hour nobody pays for - a project marked Not billed, a $0 rate, or a client hidden from invoicing. Avg per Working Day divides your hours by the scheduled working days that have already passed in the range, minus leave you took. Hours worked on a day outside your schedule (a Saturday under a Monday-to-Friday week) count toward the total but never add a day; a range that has not started yet shows a dash.

What affects my output?

Annotations: Overlay weekends, holidays, and PTO on charts to see how non-working days impact your totals.

Am I on track?

Capacity Report: Compare hours worked against a Period Target across billing periods. The Period Target is workdays times your Target Daily Avg. The Hours Over/Under row shows worked minus target - green when positive (banked), red when negative (owed). Choose between Semi-Monthly (1st-15th, 16th-End), Monthly, or Weekly periods; each period is named by its dates (Jan 1-15, Week 12 (Mar 16-22)). A week that starts in December or ends in January counts only its days in the report's year, so the year's target is the same in every period. A running Cumulative Banked total tells you if you are ahead or behind for the year. All times display in HH:MM format.

Target Daily Avg: Set your daily work target (default 8 hours) in the Filters panel. This value is saved to your profile and controls every capacity calculation.

"Holidays are paid" switch This switch in the Filters panel tells the report how to handle the holidays you have recorded under Time Off → Public Holidays with their Taken switch turned on. It is a planning-only knob: it never changes the underlying time-off entries, only how the report reads them.
  • ON (default) - "salaried" model. A holiday you take comes off the Period Target, so it costs you nothing: no deficit, nothing to make up. Year-end Holidays Total shows a green +N.
  • OFF - "made up" model. Holidays are not paid. The Period Target stays at the full gross workday count, so any holiday day you take must be worked or made up elsewhere. Year-end Holidays Total shows a red −N.
The Hours Over/Under row splits into sub-rows (Time Off + Work) so you can see how much of the gap is from days off versus actual underwork or overwork. Both always sum back to the headline value.
How this interacts with the Taken switch on a holiday entry On the Public Holidays tab, the Taken switch on each entry means "I took this holiday off." Any other day off - vacation, personal time, sick leave - belongs under PTO, never Holidays.
  • Holiday entries with Taken = off are ignored by the capacity report entirely.
  • Holiday entries with Taken = on are scored according to the "Holidays are paid" switch above.
  • PTO entries never reduce the Period Target: every workday counts toward the year, so a PTO day shows as a Time Off cost you make up elsewhere.

Editable Hours: Periods that have not ended display editable inputs pre-filled with your recorded hours. Override them to plan upcoming weeks - all downstream metrics (daily average, banked hours, year-end projection) recalculate automatically. Once a period ends it shows the hours you recorded, whatever you had planned for it. If you switch the Billing Period (Monthly to Weekly, say), your planned hours are redistributed proportionally across the new periods.

Suggest & Reset Projections: Use Suggest Projections to fill the remaining periods from your trailing average, or Reset Projections to clear all overrides and return to recorded-only values.

Export: Excel, PDF or CSV from the Actions menu, for the year, period mode, client and projections on screen. Each row is named by its dates (Jan 1-15, Week 12 (Mar 16-22)), a Status column says whether its hours are recorded, in progress, planned or not planned yet, and a Total row closes the table.

Am I profitable?

Profit-Loss Report: A formatted P&L statement, windowed on the fiscal year your Taxes use (the calendar year unless you set a fiscal year start; the Year presets on Income and Hours follow it too). Its revenue follows a basis: Money received (payments on the day they arrived), Invoiced (each invoice on its date) or Earned (time at your rates plus items on the day you delivered them); Money received and Invoiced leave out the tax you collected on your invoices. It opens on the method your tax estimate uses unless you switch it (Basis in the Filters panel, beside the year). It remembers the basis you switch it to on this device, and while it shows another basis than your tax method a line says which one the estimate uses, with Switch to go back. The revenue reads Revenue (received) or Revenue (invoiced), or on Earned Revenue (earned, time at rate) and, when the year has items, Revenue (earned, items) - followed, when the year has any, by other income, what you kept (tips and other extras, kept credit), what you wrote off, and Total Revenue - then Expenses, Operating Income, Taxes, and Net Income. The current year runs to today, so a recurring cost due later in the year is not counted yet. It shows Tax Over/Under, expenses by category, and the Expense Ratio and Tax Rate cards. Calculated taxes are worked out on the statement's own revenue, so on your tax method they match the Taxes page, and negative amounts follow accounting notation - a value in (parentheses) and red, such as a Net Income of ($1,458.00), means a loss or shortfall, not an error. Export the statement as Excel, PDF, or CSV from the Actions menu; the file's name and title row name its basis.
